It has long been rumored that MTV, which is owned in part by Viacom (Sumner Murray Redstone (born Sumner Murray Rothstein; May 27, 1923) was launched in New York on August 1, 1981. The fact and truth about the birth of MTV or “Music Television” is that it was actually founded, launched and started as “VJ1” in Natick, Massachusetts on July 8, 1980.
